"Holy Smokes, side pipe baffles woke up the 533 incher.... Big time. I was running hooker reverse flow muffler inserts, not bad, but very quit. Today got a hold of some baffles, just a little bit louder that the Hooker inserts, but let me tell you, what a sounds. The sound is out of this world. That's not all, I could idle at 700, but the car would jump all over the place, so I set the idle at 900. These baffles produce no back pressure, adjusted the idle back to 700, and 533 idles just as smooth as my Catera. Wait there's more. I had a hard time reaching the 5K rev line. The rev's would climb to 4500, no problem, but after that, it would labor to 5000 and die. Drove me nuts. Adjusted the timing, valve lash, everything, Jim comes along with the baffles, "Here son, try these, and kiss your troubles away". Okee dokee, let's give them a shot. Put them on and nailed it, almost lost it, as the revs climbed past 6500 and the car was going sideways, and I hit second, and up to 6500.

Man, talk about a perpetual grin on your face.

Gonna wash da car and go looking fer a Viper tonight.

Hey, Jim, fantastic work on the Baffles, mucho thanks for the ever lasting grin." G.Daina

"WOW is the word or to quote G.DAINA-HOLY SMOKES. It feels like a different motor, the horsepower and torque difference is something you can really feel, all the way though the RPM range. Right off of idle I could feel it, the more gas I gave it the more it wanted. The horsepower and torque gains were more then I expected and the sound is unbeatable. This is what Hooker Sidepipes should sound like, louder then the reverse flow mufflers, but no were near as loud as the CCI inserts. My thanks to Jim for making a great looking exhaust system work as good as it looks. Thanks again Jim." 1RED1

"I bought a pair for my ZZ/502 1979 'vette. They work GREAT, and sound GREAT. Also, there was a large hp gain over the Hooker glasspack inserts. The guy's forum name is JCL." MassVette

"Just got my new baffles for my Hooker side pipes and installed them this afternoon. Very nice design and quality piece of equipment! The mufflers are by no means quiet behind my factory spec L88; but, the car is much easier to drive, idles better, throttle is much more responsive making my double clutches a breeze. The car really and truly sounds the way it was meant to be. Higher rpm's sound is very authoritative, but smooth." Chuck Harmon

"Last year I ran a best of 13.50 at 103.50 mph..... but with only the addition of the STS Baffles, the mph went from 103.50 to 105.50 consistently. I am definitely making more HP. The motor is running as it was supposed to. Thanks for coming across with a quality product that was needed. UPDATE: A new best of 13.04 at 107.15mph I can smell a 12.99 but it was not to happen. Your baffle inserts have unleashed so much power, I busted a U-joint! My best mph is now 107.15 from a best of 103.5 with the Hooker mufflers. No other changes to the motor, just the baffle inserts." Charles Kwas

"Got my sidemount headers in and got the sidetubes and mufflers from JCL on today. All I can say is wow. What a great sound and I do belive the 502 likes the mufflers. I had driven it a few time open headers before I bought the sidemounts and I really don't feel much difference with theses mufflers. Did I mention that the sound is incredible. Not to loud but deep and rumbly then when you get on it watch out. I also bought the tubes from JCL with the longer tips and they look awesome. I highly recommend this setup to all you with sidepipes. Thanks to JCL and GDaina and Chuck Harmon and MAssVette for the recommendations. I will post some pictures when I can." 69TTOP502

"JCL, I was extremely disappointed with my Hooker Reverse Flow Mufflers. They sounded horrible, and seemed to choke the motor from achieving its true performance potential. After receiving my Baffles I wanted to write and thank you for making such a quality product. I was truly impressed with the workmanship. After installing your STS baffles, I was completely amazed. It sounded like it was supposed to, and the motor came alive. My 383 feel like a completely different motor. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, help me out. It's rare that you find a vendor so willing to help and offering such quality products at competitive prices. Best wishes always," ScubaJKD

"JCL - After having Hooker sidepipes with glasspack mufflers for over 3 and a half years, I was not very pleased with the performance or the sound of them. I came across the Spiral Turbo Baffles on corvetteforum.com and decided to check out their web site. The baffles received excellent reviews from people using them, so I decided I would try them after several emails back and forth with Jim (JCL). I installed a 383 into my 1981 Corvette that was previously in a '67 Corvette owned by a friend, when I started the car I knew I made a good choice putting the baffles in. The sound is absolutely incredible, the car finally sounds like it has sidepipes and draws a crowd wherever I go. Even the previous owner of the motor commented how much nicer they sound then with his factory sidepipes, and when he drove the car he also commented that the motor even performed better. STS baffles are a far superior product to any of the mufflers you can use in Hooker Sidepipes, Buy them you won't be disappointed!"

"I can't say enough about how happy I am with the sound and performance increase" Scott Frykholm

"I have a 71 BB vert and yes headers make a diff. they are hooker 4 to 1 and side pipes. the inside stays cooler, the floor does not get anywhere near as hot. I bought a set of spiral inserts from a forum member and the fit and finish was great. you can feel the diff in the seat of the pants. a lot of times you can make a mod like a K&N air filter that makes more hp but you can't feel it with headers and the right inserts you can deff tell."
Robert Kirk

"Unbelievable. What a difference. The car literally "woke" up. When I saw the mufflers that came out of the car I was shocked. They were basically a 1 and 1/4 inch pipe that was wrapped by a bigger diameter pipe that was sealed and very restrictive. The money was well worth it. My mechanic said that if he could get a gain like that for the 650 I paid by time everything was converted to Canadian money, he would out those on every car. Great job in the design of the baffles."

"Yes they are worth it.... No you will only burn yourself ONCE as all of us with them have. I gained ~~30 HP by going from glasspacks inserts to the JCLs. This is seat of the pants feel..."

"You get a resounding YES from me. I ran the hooker glasspacks in mine for about 4 years, the older they get the worse they sound, and that only takes less then a year to happen. The hooker mufflers will rust to the inside of your tubes and they are a royal PITA to get out when that happens. The baffles have 2 small mounting tabs that make contact with the inside of the tubes, the fit on mine was almost snug and when it comes time to change to change them I have no doubt it will be 100 times easier. I've only had my 81 back on the road for just over a week and everyone comments on how cool it sounds now, most of them heard it before. I took an older guy for a ride today, all he could do was grin from ear to ear and tell me how much fun he was having, especially when we went sideways. :-)

As for burning yourself, I haven't done it yet, you just have to pay attention that's all, and remember to warn your passengers. Buy the baffles, don't waste a dime on crummy mufflers"

"I had the chance to go see JCL on Tuesday and hear a comparison of the sound between my stock side exhaust and the spiral baffles. GET THE JCL BAFFLES - heck, I'd burn my leg every day to get a sound like that, not to mention the performance gains. I'm really stuck on keeping the "factory" side pipes covers, so were trying to figure out a way to fit a modified JCL setup under what I've got. There is NOTHING like the sound of side pipes :-) Whatever pain they may bringis paid for with big azz grins :-)"

"I love the sound of my JCL side pipes :-)! I just drove it to the club event and people commented on how EVERY Corvette should sound like that :-)"

"My vette is not on the road yet, buy everytime I fire it up all I get is smiles from everyone. I am told by other that it has a deep throaty sound and sounds like a vette should. I will have the rolling chassis out at a vette gathering next week and see waht all the other vette owners think. The baffles are a solid buy from JCL... If you are thinking about them, just do it and you will be happy you did."  Neil in Tenn

Even the muffler that came with the Kustom factory headers was very restrictive, about equal to the ones used by Hooker. There was still 75 to 100hp waiting to be unleashed with their removal.

The JCL baffles with the caps still cost me 50 hp from open. When I removed the end caps, the db's increased by 4, both at 1250rpm idle and 2500 free revs. The drivability of the car kept getting better as the back pressure was reduced. But without the end caps the power was only 6hp off the open pipe configuration (476hp without caps, 483 open sidepipes). The a/f mixture was right on for the power with the open pipes, about 13:1 as I recall. But with the uncapped baffles in place the a/f dropped to about 11.5:1. I have little doubt that if I were to lean the motor out about 3-4 jet numbers I would get back everyone of the 6 horse power lost with the baffles. The guys at the speed shop doing the dyno runs were utterly amazed at what numbers Jay's car and mine pulled. Amazed too that the baffles reduced the noise as much as they did with virtually no power loss."
